Smartphone Drop Testing: Face, Edge and Corner
For a smartphone or other portable electronic device, drop height is only one part of the test. Impact orientation also matters.
A product landing flat on its face experiences a different impact from one landing on an edge or corner. These different impact conditions can expose weaknesses in the screen, housing, frame, connectors, PCB and internal assembly.
The RS-DP-03A2 holds the specimen at a defined position before release. Vacuum adsorption or clamping can be used according to the specimen, with 0°, 45° and 90° positioning available for different test orientations.
This controlled release helps reduce the problem of the product flipping during the fall and makes it easier to target the required impact point.
How Does the RS-DP-03A2 Drop Tester Work?
Operation starts by securing the specimen with the appropriate vacuum or clamping fixture. The required impact orientation and drop height are then set according to the test procedure.
Once the test starts, the lifting mechanism moves the specimen to the preset height. The specimen is released for free fall onto the selected impact surface. After the drop, the mechanism automatically returns to the adsorption height, ready for the next test.
The basic test sequence is:
